DodgeWell Collective LLC

We build software that makes it easier to do what's important to you.

DodgeWell Collective is Audrey Dodgen and Darrin Wells. One of us comes from product and storytelling, the other from engineering and design. We build our software together and maintain it ourselves.

Being small keeps us close to the people who use what we make. We'd rather build a few tools well than ship many in a hurry.

Recto/verso

Our first app

A desktop app for photographing and cataloging manuscripts and historical objects. It's built for scholars and archivists, and it includes a reference library, so a project's images and the research behind them stay in one place.

It's the first tool we've released. A second is in progress.

How we work

We start with the work, not the feature list.

We spend time watching how the work really happens, and asking questions, before we write any code. Then we build the smallest thing that solves the problem in front of us, and improve it from there.

The basics matter to us: software that opens fast and still makes sense a year later. Your data stays on your own machine.

The founders

Audrey Dodgen

Co-founder

Audrey has spent nearly twenty years as a storyteller and photographer, and she brings that instinct to building software: a feel for what people need, and the clarity to build it. She holds an MA in photojournalism and an MBA. She built the first version of Recto Verso, and shapes where our products go next.

Darrin Wells

Co-founder

Darrin has spent 15 years building for the web, where his background in both software engineering and graphic design gives him an unusual edge. He holds a degree in software development and another in design. He builds and maintains our software, and makes sure it looks and feels exactly right.
